Romanticisation (n): deal with or describe in an idealised or unrealistic fashion; make (something) seem better or more appealing than it really is.
So, 2023 provided me with a unique opportunity to truly delve into the world of romanticising my life following a rough 2022. This year I travelled down under and decided to make something special about everyday. Some days are easier than others, especially for the days when I'm cooped up in my room writing essays all day, but in those days you can have a great cup of chai and savour the taste of it or you can have your favourite snack and plate it up in a way that looks pretty. Even a long, hot shower before you start studying could involve a face scrub or an extra five minutes of moisturising to feel like you've treated yourself a little bit.
Another great way to feel like you are living your best romanticised life is by keeping a journal dedicated to a daily recap in which you highlight the best moments from your day and you can go back and read it at the end of the year to see that your year was full of great moments everyday. Force yourself to look for those moments, you won't regret it.
For me, this year is about being single and dating myself while I travel and refind who I am and where I want to be. And it is magical - but I won't lie, there are days you will wake up and wish you had a significant other to experience life with and you may at times feel like you are behind schedule with marriage and kids because you have friends who are living that life but the best thing someone has told me so far this year is "you are just becoming independent again and you need to learn to love that first, and you need to wait to find someone that loves that independent you as well, wait until you are at a place where you don't need to be with someone, you simply want to be with them."
Enjoy romanticising your life, find magic in everyday, travel beyond your horizons, hike to watch that sunset, eat cake on the beach with your best friends, be your life's main character x
